Job Summary
To qualify as a Generation Operator I (GO) at Anclote Station, the incumbent must first have been qualified as a journeyman operator at either a combustion turbine combined cycle, coal, oil, trash recycle, nuclear, or natural gas power station. Within an 18‑month period, the GO will be responsible for successfully completing the FHOF Generation Operator Development Program, which includes obtaining a Maintenance Progression in the following maintenance fields: electrical, instrumentation and controls, and mechanical.
Also, within the 18‑month period, under direct supervision and on a rotating shift schedule, the GO will be responsible for achieving minimal operations and required maintenance skills in the following areas:
Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Operations, Wastewater Treatment (WWT) Operations, and all Station Laboratory duties. Failure to successfully complete the FHOF Generation Operator Development Program may result in disqualification from the position. During this 18‑month period, the GO will undergo training and job shadowing; the GO will perform, under the general guidance of a journeyman, job assignments such as board watch, conducting plant rounds, assessing plant equipment and systems for proper operation within prescribed parameters, and performing progression maintenance tasks.
and Duties
- Training and instructional assignments in board watch (monitor and maintain plant parameters in accordance with design basis; spot emergency conditions; protect individual safety and plant equipment integrity at all times; coordinate unit dispatch with unit control centers; sustain system requirements), routine site rounds, maintenance of the control center log, ensuring proper LOTO procedures, and coordination with operations of maintenance personnel, including vendor and company maintenance personnel.
- Training and instructional assignments in basic troubleshooting and repair of plant, FGD, and WWT equipment; identification of equipment that needs journeyman repair and contacting station leadership to prepare work orders.
- Training and instructional assignments in water chemistry duties such as water softener operation, demineralizer operation, polisher operation, sampling, analysis, and routine performance of analyzer calibrations.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; 3 years directly related experience as a journeyman power station operator (solar, wind, or hydro experience does not apply) or three years’ experience in ancillary power operations in a military context.
- Must achieve a test‑recommended score on the Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) MASS at the I&C level and the POSS tests.
- Associate degree or the military equivalent in a related technical field.
- Three years directly related experience in lieu of a technical degree.
- Navy nuclear experience.
- Operator journeyman level skill set; fully competent in power station operations and underpinned by theoretical thermodynamics; complete understanding of power station water chemistry functions and applications.
- Weight restriction: must be able to lift 275 pounds; this is an essential function of the job.
- Residence within one‑hour travel time of the plant.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Color vision normal; must not be impaired by colorblindness.
- Work performed at a company facility.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts to cover a 24‑hour, seven‑day operation around rotating and energized equipment, outdoors and indoors, in hot and cold temperature extremes under limited supervision; must be available for callouts and long hours. Must wear personal protective equipment.
- Travel of 5–15% of time required.
