Overview

Directly accountable for providing engineering services and technical consultation requiring professional level knowledge of plant operations and a specialized experience and understanding of the operating principles and design of Combined Cycle plants and related auxiliary systems and components. Manages and coordinates engineering activities in support of the operations and maintenance of the power plant to improve reliability, operability and maintainability. Plans, develops, designs, and executes capital and major expense projects.

This involves but is not limited to exploration of project needs, definition of scope, engineering oversight and consultation across cross-functional teams to deliver results within budget and on schedule. Provides technical directions and reviews engineering and design drawings, technical calculations, and other deliverables of peers and vendors to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, policies and guidelines. Champions any necessary changes to department or corporate processes and procedures to drive continuous improvements and maintain alignment with corporate goals and division business imperatives.

Embodies a blend of power generation technical expertise with strong project management skills.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited curriculum is required. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Florida and PMP certification are preferred. At least Eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience in large, modern power plants or industrial facilities dealing with design, construction and project management, operation and maintenance. Strong working knowledge and experience in the development of engineering and technical specifications, detailed engineering budgetary estimates, material assessments and evaluations, and project construction work plan.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop, maintain and drive adherence to SECI standards, specifications, and work methods during the engineering design and construction phases of power generation projects.
  • Controls the activities of outside consultants and contractors to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner and meets the obligations of the contract.
  • Reviews proposal evaluations and recommendations with department managers to determine the best alternatives.
  • Oversees performance of contracted engineering, coordinates all contractor and owner’s engineering interfaces, and ensures projects are completed according to project construction drawings, specifications, schedule, quality and performance requirements.
  • Reviews potential and existing vendors to ensure their capability of providing equipment and/or systems that are reliable and maintainable.
