Responsible for legacy and new product support of the Sarasota Distribution Components product lines, covering design, test, certification, obsolescence, and customer/supplier interface. Perform engineering assignments to redesign products and components, reduce costs, improve quality, maintain design control, and provide production and customer support.
Responsibilities- Use data‑driven problem‑solving methods (8D, A3, DMAIC, PDCA) to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
- Evaluate non‑conforming parts, processes, and assemblies for usability while preserving product quality.
- Identify and source replacements for obsolete materials, parts, and components.
- Develop and validate test programs per military and industry standards (SAE, RTCA DO‑160, EN, customer specs); conduct tests and document results.
- Participate in external testing laboratories as needed.
- Perform tolerance stack‑up analysis and MTBF calculations for legacy and modified components.
- Prepare documentation and coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction and customers.
- Provide cost estimates for product modifications requested by customers.
- Document design changes, bill‑of‑materials updates, and test methods using the CR/CN process.
- Review and approve change requests from manufacturing, purchasing, and suppliers.
- Respond to customer technical inquiries and product modification requests.
- Train production associates in process methods, tooling, and equipment use.
- Mentor interns and junior engineers.
- Lead and support 8D investigations to resolve quality issues.
- Maintain regular, predictable attendance and be willing to work overtime as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or related engineering. Master’s degree and 4+ years aerospace experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years manufacturing engineering experience.
- Strong mechanical and electrical systems background with hands‑on fabrication, assembly, and test knowledge.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings (GD&T), routing, BOM, and process sheets.
- Knowledge of MIL, SAE, RTCA, EN, and customer specifications.
- Experience with data collection, analysis, and problem‑solving tools.
- Understanding of material properties, tooling, and equipment cost estimation.
- Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 8D tool expertise.
- Excellent verbal, written, and computer communication skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
- Project management capability and strong time‑management skills.
- Electrical theory knowledge applicable to distribution components.
- Fluent French and/or Spanish desirable.
- Experience with PTC Creo, CATIA, Solid Works, PLM, SAP is a plus.
