Environmental Compliance, Safety Engineer
Position Summary
This is the career/senior level of the EHS Consulting classification hierarchy. This position will be project based (2 - 4 projects), report directly to the PMC Manager of Health & Safety and be a part of the PMC H&S team. Employees at this level manage work in environmental, health, and/or safety areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues.
The EHS consultant is expected to be fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures, identify problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve. This position will require the EHS consultant to travel to multiple projects, should have a good driving record, and will be provided a Duke Energy vehicle for company travel. The location of this position in Florida is flexible.

Responsibilities
Knowledgeable of the organization, procedures and assigned customers and analyzes and understands advanced-level information, past practices and business objectives to make appropriate recommendations to management/assigned customers.
Monitors the practices of assigned organizational EHS area to facilitate compliance with company and/or regulatory policies and requirements to mitigate risks. Includes providing advanced-level regulatory-required and internal environmental or safety reports, advanced-level support with training programs, and development and maintenance of procedures to assist facilities in complying with environmental or safety laws and regulations; track regulatory changes, legislative activities and industry standards.
Researches, develops, and/or evaluates advanced-level programs, policies or activities within the discipline with moderate impact or complexity; solves a range of moderate problems using standard-moderate procedures.
Provides some advanced-level information/consultation to management/assigned customers on existing EHS programs and policies, including serving as a subject-matter expert for higher-level technical programs and compliance issues; develops and maintains procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental or safety laws and regulations; tracks regulatory changes and industry standards and assists with changes to facility compliance programs; works with federal, state and local regulatory authorities to interpret regulations;
supports Duke Energy on internal/external industry committees and teams.Develops positive working relationships with peers, customers, employees and management to effectively complete work activities.
Required/Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field
Bachelors degree in Other Related Degree
Bachelors degree in Health and Safety or related field
Bachelors degree in Science
6 years related work experience
In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 6 years related work experience, High School/GED AND 10 years related work experience
Desired Qualifications
Masters degree in related field (Engineering, Health and Safety, or Science)
In addition to the desired degree, 10 years related work experience
Project Management Professional and/or CHMM and/or CSP and/or CIH and/or CHST and/or OHST
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Certifications that are current: OSHA 500, OSHA 510, OSHA 30, HAZWOPER 40-Hour, HAZWOPER 8-Hour Refresher, Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED/BBP, OSHA Compliance/Regulations
Experience in H&S oversight of Power Plant/Heavy Construction
Working Conditions
Office environment with exposure to PC terminal and keyboard
Outside work during all seasons
Occasional overtime, weekend, outage, callout work, and possible night shift coverage
Field, work site, facility visitation required
Vehicle travel involved to field location, typical travel safety factors
Field Mobility:
Field locations as needed, with requirement to live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned work location
