The Nuclear Fluid Systems Engineer will be responsible for:
Key Responsibilities- Design, analyze, and optimize fluid-based systems in nuclear power plants, research reactors, and other nuclear facilities.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of cooling, steam, and hydraulic systems while maintaining strict compliance with nuclear safety and regulatory standards.
- Work closely with reactor engineers, regulatory agencies, and maintenance teams to develop and improve system performance, reliability, and safety.
- Design, analyze, and optimize nuclear fluid systems, including reactor coolant, steam generation, condensate, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct thermal-hydraulic modeling, flow analysis, and pressure drop calculations to ensure system efficiency and safety.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including flow diagrams, P&IDs, operating procedures, and safety reports.
- Perform system reliability assessments, troubleshoot, and conduct root cause analysis for fluid system failures.
- Ensure compliance with NRC regulations, ASME codes, and other industry standards.
- Collaborate with reactor engineers, safety specialists, and regulatory bodies to enhance fluid system performance.
- Support the testing, commissioning, and maintenance of fluid systems in nuclear facilities.
- Assist in plant modifications, upgrades, and retrofits for improved efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate material compatibility and corrosion effects to ensure long-term fluid system integrity.
- Provide technical support and training to plant operators and maintenance personnel.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-7 years in fluid system design, thermal-hydraulic analysis, or nuclear plant operations (entry-level positions may require internships or co-op experience).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) certification, or equivalent industry credentials.
- Fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles.
- Hydraulic modeling and simulation software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, STAR CCM+, Flowmaster).
- Nuclear reactor coolant systems, heat exchangers, and steam turbines.
- ASME BPVC, NRC regulatory requirements, and ANSI standards for nuclear fluid systems.
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with engineers, operators, and regulatory agencies.
- A commitment to nuclear safety and compliance.
- Work under pressure and manage multiple projects with strict deadlines.
- PhD degree.
- IPO experience.
- Written and oral fluency in Italian.
- Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
