Role OverviewThis position is for a Civil/Structural Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for providing structural and geotechnical input and best‑practices guidance for business initiatives from concept through project completion. The role involves performing advanced engineering assignments, managing projects, and ensuring designs meet project specifications, safety standards, and long‑term reliability goals, with a focus on utility‑scale solar, BESS, and power plant operations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide responsive engineering support for wind, solar, energy storage, clean fuels, substation, and transmission opportunities.
- Participate in design and constructability reviews, providing timely feedback to maintain project schedules.
- Manage project engineering duties, including schedule and budget oversight, and coordinate with environmental, procurement, and construction teams.
- Lead engineering reviews, value engineering assessments, and design optimization processes.
- Drive the resolution of critical issues during project execution to prevent budget or schedule jeopardy.
- Support project financing efforts by ensuring Independent Engineers and Lenders are comfortable with engineering designs.
- Define project requirements and scope, assess execution risk, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Perform due diligence on emerging technologies and support technical evaluations of equipment and materials.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of engineering designs and project plans to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Perform annual specification reviews and incorporate lessons learned.
Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil/Structural Engineering.
Experience: 6 to 10 years of managing engineering projects, including 5‑7+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably in wind, solar, or BESS projects.
Technical Skills- Demonstrated ability to independently review and redline structural design submittals.
- Proficient in interpreting and applying national codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC) and renewable energy industry standards.
- Skilled in checking structural analysis models and construction drawings for adequacy and constructability.
- Familiarity with deliverables management platforms like Unifier, Bluebeam, and SharePoint.
- Experience with civil/structural design components such as foundations, site grading, drainage systems, seismic qualification, and pipe supports.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and construction materials behavior.
- Willingness to travel within North America, estimated at 10‑20% of the time.
- Driving required as part of the position duties.
Pay range: $47.00 per hour to $52.49 per hour (contract role).
