Overview

GAI Consultants is seeking a Director of Engineering for the Jacksonville, Florida office to lead the Civil practice in northeast Florida. The role involves guiding civil engineering, planning, and related services for public infrastructure and private land development projects, and contributing to business growth in the region.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a team of project managers, engineers, and technicians for public infrastructure projects and/or private land development projects.
  • Identify project pursuits, market clients, and manage pursuits including proposal and presentation preparation. Develop proposed scope, schedule, and fee for pursued projects and lead the interview team.
  • Win new work by maintaining client relationships, monitoring opportunities, communicating regularly, and attending client events.
  • Collaborate with transportation, water, CEI, planning, and landscape architecture/planning to market and deliver full-service project opportunities.
  • Directly manage projects to meet deadlines and budgets while maintaining high client satisfaction.
  • Monitor and manage the financial aspects of all projects within the group. Travel approximately 15% to other offices for client meetings, project reviews, and business development.

  • Provide authoritative decisions and recommendations with far-reaching impact on the practice and industry.
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning and guiding projects of major consequence.
  • Provide leadership and develop teams to create a shared vision for projects and the practice.
  • Assess engineering economic analyses and risks associated with complex engineering solutions.
  • Evaluate solutions involving multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Advocate for ethical behavior in engineering and address ethical dilemmas appropriately.
Experience
  • 17+ years of experience;
    Florida experience preferred.
Education
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering; master's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Certification and Licensure
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; reciprocity in multiple states.
  • Driver's License.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Frequently performs advisory or consulting work across broad project areas with innovative/complex aspects.
  • Assesses practices and requirements to achieve sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.
Project and Task Management
  • Evaluate project management plans for complex engineering projects.
  • Develop risk mitigation plans to address project risks.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of leaders and teams.
Communication, Teamwork and Leadership
  • Negotiate critical and controversial issues with leadership of other practices.
  • Represent the practice at important functions and conferences.
Management, Supervision and Guidance
  • Develop projects to achieve the objectives of the practice.
  • Develop practice strategy for staff development through mentored experience, continuing education, and self-development.
  • Instill and foster professional attitudes within the practice.
