Job Summary
Reporting to the chief financial officer (CFO), the Controller will oversee all finance, accounting, and reporting activities, support presentations to the board and audit committee, and work closely with senior leadership. They will lead day‑to‑day operations including accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administration.
OrganizationAllies for Every Child (Allies) has been serving at‑risk children and families for nearly 40 years, providing child development, family wellness, foster care, adoption services, mental health, educational, and health services. In 2024, Allies expanded its reach through the Extraordinary Families program for youth transitioning to adulthood.
Core Responsibilities- Direct general accounting functions across the fiscal cycle, establishing policies, procedures, and processes in line with GAAP, internal controls, and funding contracts.
- Direct financial reporting and analysis, including internal and external GAAP reporting, cash flow projects, regulatory reporting, and IRS Form 990.
- Lead preparation for and execution of all finance and accounting‑related audits and annual audit planning.
- Support budgeting process; advise senior management and design systems to manage expenditures.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with banks and financial institutions.
- Champion process quality improvement initiatives across finance and accounting.
- Implement and maintain financial internal controls and OMB circular standards.
- Keep abreast of current trends and best practices in nonprofit financial and accounting environments.
- Direct overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct reports; may supervise staff positions.
- Perform hiring, training, performance appraisals, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving employee issues in accordance with policies and laws.
- Master’s degree in finance, accounting, or business (preferred); CPA is a value‑added credential.
- At least six years of experience with financial systems in progressively responsible roles.
- Minimum four years of managerial or supervisory experience.
- Non‑profit experience managing childcare, EHS, CCTR, CFCC, DCFS, and DMH contracts preferred.
- Knowledge of Accu Fund accounting system preferred.
- Strong process quality improvement and project management experience.
- Ability to work autonomously and handle confidential information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; culturally sensitive; collaborative; punctual; professional.
- Fingerprint background clearance, DOT/CAA driver’s license with insurance, and proof of immunizations required.
Sign‑On Incentive Bonus: $2,500. Pay Range: $135,000 - $160,000 annually (according to California law).
