Location: Eglin Air Force Base
Duties - direct movement of aircraft in flight and on the ground as displayed on radar indicator or pilot reported.
- operate communication and display equipment and provide emergency assistance to aircraft.

* security clearance: incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain an secret level security clearance as a condition of employment.

* must possess current and valid faa/atc specialist certification and maintain same.
* may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, i.e., saturdays, sundays, holidays, etc. May be required to work rotating shifts and overtime.
* may be required to respond to short notice recall to support unscheduled emergency air traffic and/or contingencies/exercises to support the mission.
* must complete all training requirements within locally prescribed time limits to obtain and maintain a full facility rating in facility of assignment.
* the incumbent must have the ability to meet and maintain on a continuing basis, the physical, mental, and medical standards for atc duties as specified by the opm qualification standard for gs-2152.
* the incumbent must accomplish local limited weather observer certification requirements administered by base weather flight.
* the position may require the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
* selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period.
* at least 5 years atc radar controller experience is highly desired.
* at least 10 years of atc experience and experience in the atc career field within the last 3 years is highly desired.
* the incumbent of this position must have the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time while controlling aircraft in a dimly lit ifr room. Qualifications experience requirements are described in the office of personnel management (opm) qualification standards for general schedule positions, individual occupational requirement (ior): 2152 - air traffic control series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience: applicants must have at least one (1) year, or will have one year within 120 days of closing of this announcement, specialized experience at the next lower grade gs-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes issuing control instructions and advice to pilots in the vicinity of airports to assure proper separation of aircraft and to expedite their safe and efficient movement;
ability to act decisively under stressful situations and to maintain alertness over sustained periods of pressure; skill to coordinate plans and actions with pilots and other controllers; and judgment to select and take the safest and most effective course of action from among several available choices. Federal time-in-grade (tig) requirement for general schedule (gs) positions: merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in- grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the gs-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the gs-12 level. Tig applies if you are in a current gs position or held a gs position within the previous 52 weeks. Due to the use of 120 day rosters, applicants within 120 days of completion of tig requirements are encouraged to apply. Knowledge, skills and abilities (ksas): your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations and procedures governing the movement of air traffic in a terminal radar and test mission environment involving special use airspace (sua). 2. Knowledge of mission control atc procedures, including procedures governing the operating procedures of military radar units.
3. Ability to rapidly integrate real time add-ons of mission profiles with multiple aircraft to include unexpected aircraft from both mission and terminal control.
4. Knowledge of the functional/operational limitations of all atc equipment.
5. Ability to make rapid and precise judgments in a real-time work situation, remain calm under conditions that are stressful, coordinate many different processes at once, and adjust…
