Overview
Reviews and makes recommendations on the listing of properties on the Local Register Historic Places. Reviews changes to exterior of properties zoned with Historic Preservation Overlay (HPOD) Zoning District, and issues or denies Certificates of Appropriateness. When necessary to protect the character of property in the HPO, grants variances in accordance with the provisions stipulated in the applicable City or County ordinance.
Administers federal Certified Local Government program for historic preservation on behalf of City and County. Directs appeals of its decisions to the Planning Commission, which hears appeals and makes recommendations to the County Commission.

Eligibility Criteria
MembershipMembership includes:
- 4 - owners of property having historic preservation zoning [HPOD] (City and County each appoints two)
- 2 - members of American Institute of Architects (City and County each appoints one)
- 2 - members of Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc. (City and County each appoints one)
Members must be residents or property owners in Leon County and shall have demonstrated special interest, experience, or knowledge in history, architecture, or related disciplines.
Members must file a Financial Disclosure Form 1 from the Florida Commission on Ethics within 30 days of being appointed and annually by July 1 thereafter. In addition, when leaving the committee members must file a final Form 1F within 60 days of leaving their public position. The final Form 1F covers the disclosure period between January 1 and your last day of office within that year.
Typeof Report
Reports are required by the Federal Certified Local Government (CLG) program. Provides annual report to City and County, to be submitted in November of each year for the previous fiscal year.

2. Members may not serve more than 2 full consecutive terms per Code of Laws Sec. 10-2.362, except the Planning Commission Chairman and Planning Department Director serve during their tenure. Vacancies are filled for the remainder of the unexpired term.
First Wednesday of every month at noon, unless no items are scheduled for the agenda.
