Job SummaryFamilies in need and in crisis require time‑sensitive actions from compassionate individuals dedicated to assisting the vulnerable. The Eligibility Specialist ensures applicants are eligible for Food Assistance, Medicaid, and Cash Assistance by reviewing eligibility requirements, completing assessments, and managing caseloads within state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities- Interview applicants to gather and verify eligibility information.
- Review applications and forms for completeness and accuracy.
- Determine eligibility using a computer‑based eligibility system.
- Interview clients and, when required, provide in‑person assistance.
- Document all communications and maintain electronic files.
- Calculate and authorize benefit amounts.
- Stay current with changing regulations and procedures.
- Report suspected fraud or identity theft.
- Prioritize, plan, and complete a high‑volume, deadline‑driven workload.
- Adjust to changes in policy and technology.
- At least 2 years of customer service or related experience or an Associate degree or higher (or 60 semester hours/90 quarter hours) can substitute for experience.
- Proficiency with computer‑based eligibility systems and accurate data entry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to discuss eligibility with clients.
- Ability to interpret complex regulations and policies.
- Experience detecting and evaluating potential fraud and identity theft.
- Skilled in mathematical calculations for benefit determinations.
- Excellent planning, organization, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to attend an 8–12 week mandatory training program.
- Successful completion of mandatory skills assessments within 3 days of receiving the link.
- Typing speed and accuracy test.
- General Aptitude Mobile Evaluation (GAME).
- Employee Personality Profile (EPP).
- Eligibility for telework after nine months of employment, completion of training, and meeting performance expectations.
- Language proficiency may be considered by Agency needs.
- Work may be required during emergencies or natural disasters.
