The Florida Commission on Human Relations is the state agency charged with enforcing the state’s civil rights laws and serves as a resource on human relations for the people of Florida. The Work You Will Do

You will support the Fair Housing Intake Unit by receiving and processing incoming housing discrimination complaints, entering case information into multiple case management systems, and generating and distributing required case notification documents. You will serve as a primary point of contact for the public by answering calls, providing general information about fair housing laws, agency procedures, and case status, and directing inquiries appropriately.

This role also includes processing outgoing mail, managing electronic and physical case files, uploading and maintaining documents, and assisting Regulatory Specialists and Investigators with research and administrative support as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Receives and inputs all incoming complaints received by the Commission; notifies parties of case filings and receipt.
  • Answers incoming calls for the Fair Housing Unit.
  • Processes outgoing mail for the Fair Housing Unit.
  • Serves as a backup to the Regulatory Specialist by conducting necessary research when needed.
  • Generates and mails case notification documents to parties and transfers cases to the appropriate Regulatory Specialist assigned and to the investigator.
  • Provides information to the public about alleged discrimination in the area of Housing.
  • Advises complainants and their representatives about the law and the Agency’s jurisdiction, procedures, and rules; provides case status updates for incoming callers.
  • Uploads information into multiple case management systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of office procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations.
  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to utilize problem‑solving techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent, or
  • One (1) year of experience performing clerical, administrative, or office support work.

Preferred:

  • Experience entering, tracking, or maintaining records in electronic case management systems or databases.
  • Experience providing information to the public regarding policies, procedures, or services.
  • Familiarity with document management practices, including scanning, uploading, and maintaining electronic files.
