Broward County Board of County Commissioners – Program/Project Coordinator, Senior (Environmental Policy and Legislative Program Coordinator)

This position supports the Public Works & Environmental Services Department and serves as the lead environmental policy and legislative program coordinator.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and develop environmental policy recommendations and advocacy efforts.
  • Implement related program initiatives in collaboration with internal, municipal and regional partners.
  • Support county‑wide and regional partnerships, including engagement in the 4‑County Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact.
  • Perform high‑profile management, communication and research duties for climate, resilience, energy and water programs.
  • Develop grant applications, oversee procurement and manage contracts with private sector, government agencies and non‑profit partners.
  • Support state and federal programmatic efforts and project partnership opportunities.
  • Monitor evolving policy, legislation and regulations and develop advocacy plans.
  • Participate, organize, convene and staff work groups and committees.
  • Serve as the department’s policy expert on energy conservation and alternative energy initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong personal initiative, teamwork and superior organizational abilities.
  • Familiarity with South Florida climate pressures, mitigation and adaptation policy and programs at state and federal levels.
  • Knowledge of the state legislative process and diverse environmental subjects, including energy, water resources and Everglades restoration.
  • Experience building relationships with public, private and academic partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects within assigned time frames and plan for future objectives.
  • Proficiency in graphic design, website content management, communication tools and social media platforms.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, environmental planning/science or closely related field (or equivalent experience).
  • One year of relevant experience may substitute for each year of required education.
  • Four (4) years of experience managing special projects, programs or business operations in a staff or administrative capacity.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License.
Preferences
  • Four (4) years of experience handling contracts and grant applications.
  • Four (4) years of experience working with state/federal agencies.
  • Four (4) years of experience working with graphics, website/content management, communication tools and social media platforms.

Physical Demands

The job is primarily sedentary, with some walking or standing, and may require exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis.
