OPS ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST -

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and conduct routine inspections of migrant labor housing facilities, mobile home, lodging, recreational vehicle parks, recreational camps, and public swimming pools in Hendry and Glades Counties.
  • Perform routine compliance inspections according to Chapter 64E-14 (migrant labor housing), Chapter 64E-9 (public swimming pools), and Chapter 64E-15 (mobile home, lodging, recreational vehicle parks, and camps).
  • Complete inspection forms accurately and submit copies to owners/management by person, fax, email, or USPS mail; submit reports to supervisor for review.
  • Inform owners/management of violations, perform re‑inspections as needed, and implement corrective actions to bring facilities into compliance with relevant regulations (Chapters 64E-8, 64E-9, and 64E-15).
  • Conduct required maintenance on assigned equipment and vehicle; participate in in‑service training programs and remain aware of security policy protocols.
  • Enter daily activity records and perform any other duties within environmental health as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist with disaster preparedness assignments and other related duties.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with the Environmental Health Database Program and Mobile App.
  • Knowledge of field equipment, including digital camera and other inspection tools.
  • Ability to operate a county vehicle and maintain it according to state and county regulations.
  • Understanding of environmental principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.
  • Skill in using water testing equipment and procedures; skill in using GPS units.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment, use telephone, computer, copier, and small hand tools.
  • Ability to follow office procedures and handle telephone calls courteously and effectively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
  • Ability to interpret and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prioritization and workload management; ability to identify information in alphabetic and numeric lists.
  • Physical ability to bend, kneel, reach, and sit or stand for long periods; work outdoors and with temperature variations; walk long distances.
  • Ability to read maps and drive in unincorporated areas of Hendry and Glades Counties.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to work before, during, and/or beyond normal hours, including emergency duties such as Red Cross shelters or disaster response.
  • Eligibility for security background check, drug screening, and participation in direct deposit.
