- Consult with and provide technical assistance to county health departments and other state, local or federal agencies regarding indoor air quality issues.
- Collaborate with state and federal agencies in developing environmental standards for mitigating or minimizing human health impacts from exposure to indoor air contaminants.
- Serve as the Department liaison to other agencies, organizations, and community groups.
- Respond to indoor air phone and email inquiries from citizens, partners, and stakeholders.
- Develop and present technical papers, informative seminars, and public presentations on radon and indoor air toxics.
- Perform outreach to inform partners and stakeholders about ongoing and emerging program‑related issues using webinars, teleconferences, and emails.
- Prepare or update guideline or informational documents for public dissemination related to mold, carbon monoxide, indoor marijuana‑grow operations, clandestine drug labs, or corrosive drywall.
- Interpret pertinent public health statutes, rules, policies, and standards.
- Review technical documents, research proposals, proposed regulations, and regulation changes related to indoor air quality and environmental issues for evaluation and recommendations.
- Analyze proposed legislation on indoor air issues and assess potential impacts to the Department of Health, public health, local governments, and the public at large.
- Address public health risks associated with chemical, physical, and biological agents in indoor environments.
- Educate and inform the public about health risks of indoor air quality issues such as mold, dampness, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, asbestos, pests, and radon.
- Advise on minimizing exposure to infectious aerosols inside buildings through ventilation, air cleaning, and source control.
- Assist with radon outreach activities, including presentations and exhibiting at conferences and trade shows.
- Perform building assessments to identify potential hazards to human health related to indoor air pollution, evaluating data on pathways, sources, and driving forces.
- Prepare technical reports detailing results of building indoor air quality assessments for agency publication.
- Serve as a member of the state radiological emergency response team and be available 24/7 for responding to radiation and indoor air toxicology incidents and emergencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Three (3) years of experience in indoor air quality or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university.
Skills and Abilities
- Skill in evaluating, analyzing and interpreting comprehensive scientific/technical data.
- Ability to write technical reports effectively, concisely, and in a well‑organized manner.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Skills in public speaking and presentations.
- Ability to work professionally, tactfully, and courteously with the public.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to organize workload.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals.
- Ability to travel for field work, training and conferences.
