The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for an Environmental Project Coordinator to support the Manatee Protection Plan (MPP) program within the Natural Resources Division.

The PositionThe Environmental Project Coordinator will support the Manatee Protection Plan (MPP) program, coordinate with state and federal agencies, manage contracts for studies (boat facility inventory, habitat review, manatee aerial survey, boating activity compliance), develop data and reports, present study outcomes, and collaborate with County staff and external partners.
General DescriptionThis position is within the Marine Resources Section at the Natural Resources Division. It is responsible for coordinating County‑wide studies, preparing reports, managing contracts, and communicating findings to the public and regulated community.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental planning, environmental science, or a closely related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in environmental/natural resource programs or closely related experience, including one (1) year of lead work or supervisory experience.
- Valid Florida Class E Driver's License.
- Advanced degree (M.S./Ph.D.) in Marine Biology, Oceanography, Coastal Zone Management, or a closely related field.
- At least 1 year of knowledge of ecology, life history of regulations, protection measures, conservation, and management of protected species.
- At least 1 year of professional experience working in the marine environment.
- At least 2 years of professional experience with aerial survey techniques or methods for collecting boating usage data and marine species population data.
- At least 2 years of employment experience in GIS, including creating, developing, and maintaining geodatabases and performing analyses.
- At least 2 years of experience in writing scientific reports and utilizing statistical analysis.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in contract preparation, contract management, and budget management.
- At least 2 years of experience in public speaking and communication (verbal and written).
- At least 2 years of professional experience in procurement and purchasing procedures.
- Coordinate environmental operations related to the Manatee Protection Plan (MPP) to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Lead long‑term environmental programs, site investigations, ecological monitoring, management plans, and permit or license condition enforcement.
- Provide technical expertise in environmental principles, techniques, processes, and legal requirements for specialized disciplines.
- Investigate complaints, address agency staff, other government agencies, and the public in resolving environmental issues.
- Develop manuals, guidelines, permit applications, and procedures, and assist in writing, amending, and updating County environmental rules and regulations.
- Prepare technical reports and agency correspondence; develop GIS project maps; prepare grant proposals; manage grants, permits, contracts, and project budgets.
- Prepare environmental review comments and request additional information from consultants or property owners for revised calculations and designs.
- Apply data analytics to projects (boat facility inventory, seagrass study, manatee aerial survey, recreational boating study) to recommend program modifications and improve policies.
