The Town is seeking a Code Compliance Officer with a specialization in Short-Term Rentals (STR) to serve as a key member of the Code Compliance team and a primary point of contact for residents, visitors, and STR owners/operators regarding STR compliance.

You will play a vital role in responding to STR-related concerns, conducting inspections, documenting conditions, building enforcement‑ready case files, and guiding owners/operators and property managers toward timely, voluntary compliance with applicable Town ordinances and nuisance-related requirements.

Position Summary

Performs specialized, investigative, enforcement, compliance, and public service work primarily focused on short‑term rentals (STR), violations and STR-related cases, including enforcement or applicable Town ordinances, Land Development Code provisions, zoning requirements (as applicable), and nuisance related regulations associated with STR activity. Responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting inspections, investigating complaints, accurate documenting of violations, preparing enforcement cases, coordinating corrective actions, and promoting voluntary compliance through education and professional communication.

The position requires significant fieldwork, independent judgement, customer service, conflict resolution and coordination with Town departments, residents, businesses, STR owners / operators, property managers / local contractors, public agencies, and legal representatives. While the primary assignment is STR enforcement, the position will assist with other code compliance cases and items as needed or assigned.

The position also supports emergency preparedness, response, recovery, post disaster operations, damage assessment activities, and continuity of operations efforts.

Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation

If assigned, employees in this classification will be required to report and carry out duties as directed for the duration of an emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require extended hours, including around the clock for several days on short notice.

  • Perform investigative, enforcement, compliance, follow‑up, and public education duties primarily related to STR violations and STR‑related nuisance impacts.
  • Conduct field inspections, site visits, and property investigations to verify compliance with STR‑related Town codes/ordinances, zoning/land use requirements (as applicable), and related municipal regulations.
