• A high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, public health, or food safety; or one of the physical or natural sciences, agriculture, or engineering.
• A high school diploma or equivalent and six months of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida.
• A bachelor’s degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university.

Requires possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

Educational

Note:

Graduates utilizing education attained in the United States must provide verification of the applicable degree. Foreign‑trained graduates must provide a credential evaluation from an approved agency.

• Determine proper monitoring programs and perform in‑situ measurement of physical parameters and collection of water and tissue samples for laboratory bacteriological and chemical analysis; operate state vehicles and technical field equipment including outboard motorboats.
• Serve as professional specialist in conducting computer modeling of environmental water quality parameters for shallow inshore areas; prepare technical reports.
• Conduct shoreline surveys, establish water sampling stations, evaluate, install, and maintain water quality monitoring technologies.
• Maintain district office, field instruments, boats, vehicles, file administrative reports and requisition supplies.
• Attend meetings and review documents regarding water quality and shellfish.
• Assist other districts statewide in shoreline surveys, water quality monitoring, and statistical analyses; participate in editorial review of other district office comprehensive shellfish harvesting area surveys.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
• Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
• Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific or technical data.
• Ability to prepare technical reports.
• Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.
• Ability to understand and follow legislative policy direction as established in Florida Statutes.

Regulatory responsibilities; subject to Florida Statutes and Administrative Code.

Occasional travel required. Must successfully complete an approved boating safety course within 90 days of employment and maintain a Boating Safety Education Identification Card.

Must pass background screening, including fingerprinting.
