The Town of Palm Beach seeks a Building Plan Review & Compliance Officer to ensure safe, high-quality development in our premier coastal community. This role reviews residential and commercial construction plans for compliance with Florida Building Code, zoning, and life-safety standards; issues review comments and approvals; and coordinates with planning, fire, and public works. The position provides expert guidance to contractors, design professionals, and residents, supports inspections and code enforcement, and upholds the Town's values of integrity, accountability, and responsive public service.
Responsibilities
- Review commercial and residential building plans for compliance with local, state, and federal building, zoning, and life-safety codes.
- Issue detailed plan review comments, approvals, and conditional approvals within established service timelines.
- Conduct field inspections as needed to verify that construction matches approved plans and code requirements.
- Interpret and apply Florida Building Code, municipal ordinances, and related regulations for designers, contractors, and residents.
- Collaborate with planning, fire, and public works staff to coordinate multi-departmental review of development projects.
- Provide clear guidance to applicants, architects, and engineers to resolve code deficiencies and support safe, compliant design.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and databases of plan reviews, permits, and inspection outcomes.
- Participate in process improvements, policy updates, and staff trainings to enhance service quality and consistency.
- Respond to inquiries and complaints from residents, contractors, and other stakeholders with professionalism and customer focus.
- Support enforcement actions, including notices of violation and corrective orders, when work is non-compliant.
