executive direction & business support branch public records position summary

this position is a selected exempt service (ses) position responsible for supervision of staff. Incumbent spends the majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating members while planning and directing their work. Incumbent in this position serves as the overall manager to the public records unit within the office of the executive director.

duties & responsibilities

specific duties include:

  • providing day-to-day oversight of the unit’s operations;
  • providing analysis on proposed and enacted legislation as it relates to florida’s public records law and fdle’s responsibilities under the same;
  • coordinating with other leadership to improve the agency’s overall public records strategy;
  • conducting independent and directed special projects;
  • consulting with appropriate department personnel regarding pending public records litigation;
  • monitoring, researching and evaluating public records processes, resources and tools;
  • serving as the agency’s custodian of records; and
  • maintaining the public records website.

to be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the u.s. Department of education.

minimum qualifications
  • at least two years of public records management experience.
knowledge, skills & abilities
  • knowledge of management principles and practices;
  • knowledge of the procedures and techniques for effective verbal and written communication;
  • knowledge of florida statutes as related to public records and dissemination of records to various entities;
  • ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments;
  • ability to plan, organize, coordinate and complete work assignments;
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • ability to prioritize efforts to assure most important or urgent tasks are timely completed;
  • ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • ability to work independently; and
  • ability to keep detailed records and notes.

base salary
  • $75,600 - $84.000
