Environmental Specialist II with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Aquaculture inspects and evaluates shellfish processing facilities for license certification under state and federal regulations. The position involves collecting water and meat samples, conducting food-borne illness investigations, providing technical assistance to the shellfish industry, and preparing inspection reports. This role requires maintaining FDA State Standardization certification and moderate travel.
Keyqualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, public health, food safety, physical/natural sciences, agriculture, or engineering; OR six months
- Valid Class E Driver License required
- Knowledge of molluscan shellfish public health protection and aseptic sample collection techniques
- Knowledge of National Shellfish Sanitation Program Model Ordinance and Florida Administrative Code Rule 5L-1
- Ability to maintain FDA State Standardization certification within six months of appointment
- Ability to communicate clearly, work independently and cooperatively, and travel as needed
