- Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, responsible for pre‑analytical processes of laboratory services.
- Follow laboratory protocols for pre‑analytical processes.
- Adequately prepare specimens for send‑out to reference labs.
- Advises Lab Manager of malfunctioning equipment, LIS issues, and any unusual situations.
- Perform venipuncture when necessary.
- Monitor venipuncture inventory and report inadequacies.
- Perform phlebotomy duties according to standards, practices, and procedures.
- Follow appropriate PPE requirements while performing duties, gather supplies and assemble equipment according to standards.
- Confirm patient identification using two identifiers, perform phlebotomy, and collect appropriate specimens as indicated.
- Properly identify and label specimens at bedside, matching patient labels.
- Notify nursing staff regarding any issues or concerns noted before, during, or after the procedure, and document accordingly.
- Verify specimen collection, centrifuge, and process specimens as needed.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- BLS required.
- Current certification from one of the following:
National Phlebotomy Association, American Medical Technologists, American Society for Clinical Pathology National Health career Association, National Center for Competency Testing, or other approved agencies.
- One (1) year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
