Volunteer Fire Fighter

The purpose of the position is to contribute to the comprehensive City Fire Rescue and Emergency Services program. This position performs technical work in the field of emergency response in the application of the prevention, control, and suppression of fire; emergency medical care; and in response to natural and human-made disasters.

• Responds to fire alarms and emergency medical service calls with other personnel, lays and connects hose, raises and climbs ladders, searches structures to locate persons trapped or injured, uses hand tools to ventilate structures, operates motor vehicles, administers first aid, performs CPR and other emergency medical procedures as required.
• Carry out all instructions and orders given by line officers.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in decision making and all phases of responsibilities.
• Performs other duties as required.

• Must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid Florida Driver’s license.
• Satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.
• Have the ability to pass a physical/medical evaluation.
• Must reside within Crystal River or with in close proximity to the city limits.

• Florida Firefighter Part I (or must have the ability to fulfill Florida reciprocity requirements)

• Hazardous Materials Operations level

• Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC)
