Professional Counselor Opportunity

What

You’ll Do

This position provides independent professional counseling and student support services to individuals enrolled at Tallahassee State College and reports to the Manager, Counseling Services. The Professional Counselor supports student success, personal development, and well‑being through a holistic, strengths‑based approach by providing assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, advocacy, referral coordination, consultation, and psycho educational programming. The role also includes collaboration with campus and community partners, support for training and supervision activities, and maintaining accurate, compliant documentation and confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA standards.

Clinical

Services and Student Care

Provides comprehensive clinical services to support the needs of a diverse college student population. Collaborates with campus partners to identify, support, and refer students of concern. Responsibilities include conducting intake and assessment interviews; developing individualized treatment and intervention plans; providing triage, crisis response, and short‑term individual and family counseling using solution‑focused approaches; and delivering trauma‑informed care, including crisis intervention and grief/loss support.

Facilitates referrals to community resources and ensures appropriate follow‑up care through case management practices, including monitoring, documentation, and coordination of services. Maintains accurate and confidential client records, completes timely case notes, and adheres to all applicable federal regulations (FERPA, HIPAA) and professional ethical standards (e.g., ACA Code of Ethics). Additionally, provides consultation and guidance to faculty and staff regarding students of concern, ensuring a coordinated, student‑centered approach to care while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and ethical practice.

Outreach,

Prevention, and Campus Engagement

Designs and facilitates outreach initiatives that promote student wellness, resilience, and mental health awareness. Leads psycho educational workshops, group interventions, and presentations for students, faculty, and staff on topics relevant to the college population. Maintains collaborative relationships with campus constituents to coordinate services for referred students and acts as a liaison with community mental health, medical, and social service agencies. Serves as a resource to families and support networks, as appropriate, regarding student mental health concerns.

Participates in the recruitment, training, and supervision of graduate‑level interns in counseling, psychology, social work, or related disciplines.

Program Development and Assessment

Supports the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives in collaboration with counseling leadership to address evolving student mental health needs. Partners with faculty and staff to proactively identify trends and implement programming that enhances student success and well‑being. Contributes to institutional effectiveness efforts by collecting, analyzing, and reporting data for monthly and annual assessments.

Campus Collaboration and Professional Development

Serves as an active member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and other institutional committees as assigned, contributing to coordinated campus response efforts for students of concern.
