Position Summary

As a 3rd year Pharmacy Intern at a Retail pharmacy, you will apply didactic learning from pharmacy school to real‑world practice while gaining comprehensive training in pharmacy team operations, store, district, and regional activities. You will support pharmacy operations, fill prescriptions safely and accurately, and provide patient‑centered care in all customer interactions.
Responsibilities- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap that includes Key Learning Experiences (KLEs) and hands‑on tasks at the pharmacy workplace.
- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to support clinicians and maintain patient health.
- Execute pharmacy workflow procedures (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by demonstrating empathy and genuine care across all service channels and by offering immunizations and other health services when supported by training.
- Provide patient counseling and answer medical questions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions, clarify prescriptions, and facilitate medication changes as permitted by state regulations.
- Offer in‑the‑moment coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members, sharing best practices.
- Perform basic inventory activities (e.g., putting away deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories) as directed by leadership.
- Actively seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge related to patient care and pharmacy operations.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntary travel to other store locations.
- Understand and comply with all applicable federal, state, local laws, regulations, and professional standards.
- Deliver additional patient health care services such as immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and off‑site clinic staffing where permissible and supported by training.
- Complete additional licensure and training required to obtain Technician Immunizer status for vaccine preparation and administration.
- Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer questions to the pharmacist‑on‑duty.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions, reporting events as required by public health regulations.
- Review, collect, and document patient information for each vaccination encounter.
- Accepted into or actively enrolled in an ACPE‑accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Must possess, or be in the process of obtaining, valid intern and/or technician licensure as required.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus – concentrate, pivot quickly between tasks, and confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
- Customer service and team orientation – look for ways to help people in a friendly manner and understand patient reactions.
- Communication skills – use verbal and written communication effectively, practice active listening, and ask appropriate questions.
- Mathematical reasoning – use math to determine dosage calculations and supply needs.
- Problem resolution – identify challenging interactions and select the best course of action.
- Physical demands – lift, scan, and move items; reach, lift, and move items up to 20 lb with appropriate effort; maintain visual acuity for detailed tasks.
- Perform any additional tasks as directed by a supervisor or manager.
- 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service.
- Ability to become immunization certified once state regulations permit.
- Willingness to work from the home store and travel across the market to meet business needs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Typical pay range for this role is $18.00 – $19.75 per hour.
