MFLC Assignment Ready Counselor (Florida Panhandle)
Job OverviewThis position requires independent state licensure as a Mental Health Counselor, Therapist, or Social Worker, and provides support for On Demand Events, Surges, Summer Camps, and Backfills supporting the MFLC program. The Assignment Ready Counselor (ARC) will deliver adult, child, and youth behavioral (CYB) counseling services to military service members and families at military installations. Duties include non‑medical counseling, brief therapy, training and wellness presentations, consults with parents, school personnel, and installation leadership, and data entry of counseling activities.
Responsibilities- Provide coverage in short‑term, surge, and on‑demand assignments resulting from military needs, including weekend and two‑week deployments.
- Deliver full breadth of adult and CYB counseling to service members, families, students, and staff.
- Conduct assessment, brief counseling, action planning, referrals, and follow‑up.
- Offer parent training, staff guidance, and at‑school training for DoDEA and community schools.
- Present health and wellness topics at health fairs and other base activities.
- Enter counseling data daily via smartphone or web application while maintaining confidentiality.
- Respond quickly to emergent situations and maintain presence on installation sites.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn and restricted reporting per DoD protocol.
- Communicate with Regional Supervisors, participate in individual and group supervision, and share trends and issues on assigned facilities.
- Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the point of contact.
- Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health related field or social work.
- Current state license as a Mental Health Counselor, Therapist, or Social Worker (independent clinician).
- Ability to work full‑time assignments ranging from a weekend to two weeks, with short notice.
- Experience with brief therapy and solution‑focused counseling methods.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport quickly with military personnel, families, and staff.
- Prior military service or strong familiarity with military culture (desired).
- For CYB positions: meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development or psychology.
- US citizenship and fluency in English.
- Ability to comply with site‑specific requirements, including immunizations and travel within the base.
- Must be a licensed professional counselor (LPC) or comparable credential.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of assignment.
- Ability to travel within base and to off‑base locations, including outdoors and rugged terrain.
