Special Requirements

Firefighter - Step 0:
Must be enrolled in an approved State of Florida emergency medical technician program at time of appointment and obtain certification as a State of Florida emergency medical technician (EMT) within 12 months of appointment unless extended by the Fire Chief due to extenuating circumstances. Must execute a Step 0 agreement at time of appointment.

Firefighter - Step 1:
Must be a State of Florida certified emergency medical technician (EMT) at the time of appointment and must maintain this certification as a condition of continued employment. A valid State of Florida Paramedic certification may substitute for the EMT certification.

Must possess a valid Class E State driver's license or equivalent, as determined by the City, at the time of appointment.

All male applicants between the ages of 18-26 years of age must provide proof of Selective Service registration or exemption.

Must maintain compliance with Florida Statute 633.
