Position SummaryThe Medical Equipment Technician performs scheduled maintenance and builds a knowledge base of a variety of common medical devices, such as Infusion Pumps, Centrifuges, Suction Pumps, and Patient Support equipment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform electrical systems checks, equipment tagging, incoming equipment inspections, installation, recall & alert activities.
- Calibrate and repair medical devices.
- Provide basic X‑ray training and perform preventive maintenance on basic x‑ray systems (a plus).
- Associate’s Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field; or United States Military Biomedical Equipment Service training.
- Technical certificate from an accredited institution for Biomedical Equipment Service, electronics, or another related field.
- One to three years of direct medical device service experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use hand tools commonly associated with the repair and maintenance of medical equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to use test equipment, gauges and meters commonly associated with the service of medical equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to read, understand and interpret technical documentation, including wiring and equipment schematics.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Two years of direct medical equipment service experience.
- Basic X‑ray training and/or specialized Biomedical Equipment Service training on specific equipment (Anesthesia, sterilizers, ultrasound, or X‑ray).
- Expert level knowledge and skills on at least two specialized medical technology device types, such as networked physiological monitoring systems, specialized medical laboratory equipment, respiratory therapy equipment and ventilators, highly specialized surgical systems, X‑ray systems, or medical device security.
- CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or CLES (Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist).
