Human Services Worker III

Children and Families Position Number:  Salary: $36,397.92 annually / $1,399.92 bi‑weekly.

Evening and Night Shift positions receive a $3.00 per hour shift differential.

What You Will Do

Provide residential care and support for individuals with mental illness, ensuring a safe, therapeutic environment and facilitating recovery.

  • Observe residents at all times to identify distressful stimuli or triggers and to maintain a supportive environment.
  • Communicate with residents to build trust and recognize signs of distress or health concerns.
  • Intervene to remove residents from distressing situations, ensure they are not neglected, abused, or exploited, and respond appropriately during medical or disaster emergencies.
  • Provide escort, transport, and accompaniment to appointments, activities, and meals, ensuring safety throughout.
  • Monitor intake during meals and prevent choking or improper food handling.
  • Administer seclusion or restraints as necessary, assess release criteria, and identify immediate health needs.
  • Assist with daily living activities such as oral care, bathing, and showering.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years old at the time of hire.
  • One year of experience in a medical, psychiatric, nursing, or childcare setting; customer service; developmentally disabled persons; or correctional facility; OR college/vocational training (30 semester, 45 quarter, or 720 classroom hours) may substitute.
  • Valid driver’s license when required.
  • Ability to attend a 1–2 week mandatory training course, including CPR certification.
Physical Agility Requirements
  • Ambulate up and down a stairwell.
  • Assist with emergency evacuations.
  • Maintain normal vision and hearing.
  • Work with cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Perform repetitive movements with arms, hands, neck, and head.
  • Bend, twist, turn, kneel, stoop, squat, push, pull, lift, and walk extended distances.
  • Lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Stand or sit for one hour without a break.
  • Work 16-hour shifts on occasion and remain alert while on duty.
  • Operate equipment necessary for job tasks.
  • Drive an EZ Go or vehicle if job essential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Participate in service planning and ensure adherence to plans.
  • Assist residents with daily living activities.
  • Maintain a safe environment using proactive verbal and non‑verbal communication and crisis management techniques.
  • Document information factually and objectively.
  • Provide safe observation, accurate assessment, and effective monitoring of residents.
  • Escort and transport residents to appointments and activities.
  • Facilitate group and leisure activities.
  • Advocate for residents’ recovery.
  • Build and maintain appropriate relationships with residents, families, providers, and co‑workers.
