Your Specific Responsibilities
This is a professional position within the Board of Osteopathic Medicine in which the employee functions independently and as part of a team to answer incoming calls from applicants and licensees and increase overall customer satisfaction. These duties guarantee qualified health care professionals can work in the state, so all Floridians have access to the health care they need in order to lead healthier lives.
By increasing the number of licensed health care professionals in the state, the incumbent also supports those currently working in health care professions who are so critical in our current and any future public health emergency.
The individual in this position is expected to demonstrate the agency’s fundamental values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, responsiveness and excellence and promote the Department’s mission. The incumbent must exercise independent judgment in dealing with potential applicants and licensees. This position requires problem‑solving skills and the ability to provide personal guidance to applicants regarding the certification and licensure process. The incumbent must be able to establish and maintain dependable, effective working relationships with others and maintain a pre‑approved work schedule with minimal interruptions to workflow.
The incumbent independently monitors and evaluates the unit workflow to ensure the daily assignments are completed timely. The incumbent conducts initial training, as well as continuing training as necessary. The incumbent will:
- Monitor email boxes for three professions – the Boards of Osteopathic Medicine, Speech‑Language, Pathology & Audiology, and Acupuncture – distributing emails to the appropriate processor and ensuring a response is provided within 24 hours.
- Report to management failure to respond to emails within 24 hours.
- Review applications on the Initial Apps report to ensure processors are processing initial applications in less than ten days and report any issues with workflow assignment and failures to meet the ten‑day target.
- Review application reports to monitor and ensure application files are updated in a timely manner, and report to management when files are not reviewed or updated promptly.
- Train new employees and provide continuing training to existing employees for process changes.
- Ensure refund requests are submitted to Finance and Accounting in a timely manner.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert for processors when confronted with cases that are outside the norm and handle problematic applications.
- Serve as point of contact with the board liaison for Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology continuing education review.
The incumbent independently evaluates applicant qualifications for licensure in accordance with statutory and rule requirements and obtains supplemental information as required to determine eligibility for licensure, certification, or registration.
Subject‑Matter Expert & Processing ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent serves as the subject‑matter expert for Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology licensure and as a processor for Osteopathic Physician, Osteopathic Resident Registration, Osteopathic Limited License, Osteopathic Expert Witness, Osteopathic Physician in an Area of Critical Need, Speech‑Language Pathologist, Audiologist, Speech‑Language Pathologist Assistant, Audiologist Assistant, Provisional Speech‑Language Pathologist, Provisional Audiologist, Acupuncture, and military (VALOR, waiver) applications. - Process applications in the licensing database (LEIDS) as appropriate and issue correspondence concerning application deficiencies to applicants in progress or issue licensure to approved applicants.
