Pharmacy Tech Standing ED

Job Summary

The Free Standing Emergency Department (FSED) Pharmacy and Supply Technician is responsible for managing pharmacy and supply operations to ensure safe and effective medication and supplies availability, distribution, storage, security and control. Responsibilities include receiving, ordering, promptly distributing all medication and supplies within the facility, reviewing and maintaining all Min/Max levels for storeroom safety stock and other stocking locations including automated dispensing cabinets.

The technician follows and enforces policies and procedures, quality assurance and regulatory compliance in conjunction with the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) and/or Consultant Pharmacist. The FSED Pharmacy and Supply Technician fulfills departmental responsibilities within the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital, complies with all regulatory standards, and works with the Director of Pharmacy to identify and develop processes to meet or exceed regulatory standards.

• Work with or under supervision of the Pharmacist‑In‑Charge (PIC) to identify and develop processes to meet or exceed regulatory standards. Participate in quality and regulatory reviews and audits.
• Deliver and stock medication and supplies in an accurate and timely manner.
• Authorized to transport and deliver legend drugs, non‑prescription drugs, contrast media and drug‑containing devices relative to core competencies of the position.
• Place safety stock in the proper location.
• Receive expedited deliveries, accurately key receiving into the SMART system, and deliver to appropriate departments and automated dispensing cabinets (ADC).
• Receive cross‑docked items into the SMART system as appropriate.
• Review Min/Max for storeroom and ADC safety stock daily and place orders appropriately.
• When loading medications in ADC and putting up supplies, check for out‑dated items and enter soonest‑to‑expire data for medication currently in the pocket.
• Maintain record of refrigerated medications manually or by using an electronic medication monitoring system.
• Refill and check kits, trays, and boxes.
• Count par‑level areas (POU areas) weekly according to schedule.

• High School Diploma required.
• State‑registered Pharmacy Technician (CpHT) required.
• Pharmacy Technician Board or NHA Certification (PTCB) required.
