Job DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of licensed personnel, the patient care technician performs a variety of routine duties to assist the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care. This position spends the majority of time interacting with, assisting, and supporting patients. In addition to ensuring a safe environment, this role develops a therapeutic relationship with each patient, which is critical in the healing process.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you will do
- Assist with ambulating and mobilization of patients, take and record vital signs (BP, Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, O2 saturation), weigh patients, assist with personal hygiene / AM care (oral care, bathing), assist with bedpans and toileting, catheter care, empty drains, turn bedridden patients or those needing turning, perform linen changes, assist with meal preparation and feeding, document intake and output, light cleaning and organizing of the patient’s room, respond to call lights, and relay pertinent information to the nurse.
- Demonstrate the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct patient care in collaboration with licensed personnel.
- Perform all responsibilities/duties required by the department to address the unique needs of the client, including sitting with patients and with Baker Acted patients as applicable.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of data collected.
- Assist with clerical duties to support the healthcare team in delivering patient care.
- Maintain supplies and inventory for the department.
- Receive and direct phone calls and serve as the receptionist for the department.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association — Upon Hire Required
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Basic computer knowledge
- Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients
- Ability to sit for extended periods
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of acceptable ranges of blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, and EKG
- Ability to document and utilize electronic health record applications
- Empathy and excellent listening skills
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
