Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Part-time position 25-29 hours. Time sheet and EAR entry within the required time frame.
- Subject to emergency duty in the event of a natural disaster.
- Completion of all mandatory or assigned trainings within the required time frame.
- Counsel women in the WIC clinic.
- Receive a caseload of WIC clients and make routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned.
- Give basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including telling them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding.
- She also helps mothers prevent and handle common breastfeeding concerns. Available outside usual 8 to 5 working hours to new mothers who are having breastfeeding problems.
- Respect each client by keeping her information strictly confidential.
- Keep accurate records of all contacts made with WIC clients.
- Work in outlying clinics as assigned.
- Refer mothers, according to clinic-established protocols, to the: WIC nutritionist or breastfeeding coordinator, lactation consultant, the mother's physician or nurse, public health programs in the community, or social service agencies.
- Attend and assist with breastfeeding classes and breastfeeding support group as assigned.
- Attend & participates in monthly staff meetings, in-service trainings, other staff development activities and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate.
- Accurately complete all forms such as leave & attendance records, etc. by required deadlines 90% of the time.
- Read assigned books and materials on breastfeeding that are provided by the supervisor.
- Assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling through special projects and duties as assigned.
- Other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Work approximately 25-29 hours per week.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Applications.
- Knowledge of States of Florida Personnel Rules and applicable Florida Statues.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
- Ability to prepare accurate reports timely.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Skilled at data entry.
- Skilled at being able to prioritize and organize a heavy workload.
- Detailed-oriented.
- Skilled at exceptional customer service.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum – Must have exclusively breastfed a baby for at least 6 months in the last 5 years of less.
- Must be willing to travel within Clay County.
- Must be willing to be on-call at night or weekends (up to 9pm at night and weekends 9am to 9pm).
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 25lbs over uneven ground unassisted.
- Must have a valid state driver's license.
- Preferred – Participant on the WIC program.
- Should not have one or more of the following credentials:
Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Dietitian (RD), Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LD/N), or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
