Working Title:

OPS SENIOR PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITIONIST -

Assists in the planning, conduction, and administration of a generalized nutrition program in a designated health clinic/site.

Performs nutrition risk assessments according to WIC policy and procedures. Provides nutrition counseling and education to clients including infants, children up to 5 years of age, pregnant women, postpartum women, and breastfeeding women.

Assists clients with goal setting to improve nutrition and health status. Documents assessment, education and referrals in FL-WiSE. Ensures proper documentation as required by policy, local procedures, and quality improvement chart audits.

Coordinates and performs reassessment and education to high-risk clients and other clients according to state and local protocol. Assigns appropriate tailored food packages. Provides group education as needed.

Certifies clients for participation in the WIC Program in accordance with the policies of the state WIC Program and regulations as stated in DHM 150-24.

Reviews medical documentation and foods forms and WIC referral forms. Refers clients to community resources as needed. Obtains anthropometric and hematological data for WIC certifications, recertifications, and rechecks as needed.

• Knowledge of clinical practices, policies, and procedures and ability to apply them
• Computer knowledge and ability to include patient electronic records
• Knowledge to recognize situations in which intervention is needed to improve clinical efficiency and/or patient care
• Ability to record a clear, understandable, and legally defensible account of care or services provided
• Ability to teach clients specific health issues, promotion of wellness, maintenance of health and prevention of disease
• Knowledge base in nutrition and breastfeeding
• Ability to provide group education
• Ability to bend, squat, or stand for prolong amount of time and lift items up to 35 pounds

Minimum:

• Current License in the State of Florida as a Dietitian/Nutritionist
• Willingness to provide coverage at all Nassau WIC sites
• Valid Driver’s License
• Must be able to bend, squat, or stand for prolonged time, and lift items up to 35 pounds

Preferred:

• Previous or current employment with WIC
• Proficient in the use of FL-WiSE
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
