Job Summary

The Banquet Captain plays a crucial role in coordinating and executing successful banquet and catering events at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort. This position involves supervising and leading banquet staff, ensuring the seamless execution of events, and delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Event Coordination: Collaborate with the Banquet Manager and event planners to ensure all details of the event are accurately communicated and executed, including setup, timing, menu, and guest preferences.
  • Staff Supervision: Direct and supervise banquet staff, including servers, bartenders, and other support personnel. Assign duties, provide guidance, and ensure proper staffing levels to meet event requirements.
  • Setup and Breakdown: Oversee the setup and breakdown of event spaces, ensuring proper placement of tables, chairs, decor, and other amenities according to event specifications.
  • Service Quality: Monitor the service provided during events to ensure it meets Sandestin's standards of excellence. Address any guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Team Training: Train banquet staff on service standards, safety protocols, and event procedures. Foster a positive and productive team environment.
  • Guest Relations: Interact with event hosts and guests, addressing any special requests or needs to ensure a memorable experience. Handle guest feedback and provide solutions as necessary.
  • Logistics Management: Coordinate with other departments, such as kitchen and audio-visual, to ensure smooth event operations. Communicate any changes or adjustments to the team.
  • Inventory Control: Manage inventory of event-related items, such as linens, glassware, and other supplies. Ensure proper care, storage, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Problem Solving: Quickly address any issues that arise during events, such as setup delays, technical malfunctions, or guest complaints, and implement effective solutions.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate event records, including attendance, guest counts, and special requests. Provide event summaries and feedback to the Banquet Manager.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in banquet or event coordination, preferably in a resort or upscale hospitality setting.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a focus on guest satisfaction.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure flawless event execution.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service standards, including safety and hygiene practices.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift items for extended periods.
  • MUST have open availability nights, days and weekends.
Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver’s license.

Basic Required Skills
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Utilizes an “open door” policy, and reviews employee satisfaction results to identify and address employee problems or concerns.
  • Requires good clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong leadership experience is a must for this position.
