Role Overview
Craft is seeking an experienced HR Manager who is personable, grounded, and highly competent. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact for all HR matters, balancing employee advocacy with company compliance and operational needs.
The ideal candidate is:

- Resourceful and proactive in finding answers independently
Because this is a standalone HR role, 3–5+ years of hands‑on HR experience is required. This role will not have any other positions to support it (no HR Generalist or Director).
Core ResponsibilitiesPayroll & Compensation
- Submit bi‑weekly payroll, bonuses, quarterly payroll, and payroll reconciliations
- Manage payroll through Paylocity or a comparable HRIS system
- Understand paycheck calculations in detail and clearly explain them to employees
- Update employee tax with holdings and manage employer payroll tax compliance
- Coordinate multi‑state payroll tax accounts and filings
- Lead and administer the annual compensation review process, including merit increases and bonus coordination
Performance Management
- Own and manage the annual performance review process
- Partner with leadership and managers to ensure fair, consistent, and well‑documented evaluations
- Support managers in delivering performance feedback clearly and professionally
- Ensure performance outcomes align with compensation decisions and company goals
Hiring & Onboarding (End‑to‑End Ownership)
- Own the entire hiring and onboarding pipeline, including:
- Partnering with managers to develop and post job descriptions
- Screening candidates and supporting interview processes
- Assisting hiring managers with interview structure and evaluation
- Drafting and sending offer letters
- Walking new hires through onboarding
- Ensuring all onboarding tasks and compliance requirements are completed
- Build out integrations to automate processes
Employee Relations & Performance
- Advise managers on employee relations, behavioral concerns, and performance management
- Guide leadership on appropriate, compliant handling of employee issues
- Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures
Benefits Administration
- Clearly explain employee benefits and answer detailed employee questions
- Draft internal and external benefits summaries and materials
- Lead annual benefits renewals, including vendor negotiations
Reporting, Vendors & Operations
- Manage, generate, and export HR reports for leadership and cross‑functional departments
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of people‑related data and metrics
- Manage select contract vendor relationships (e.g., benefits providers, HR vendors, compliance partners)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned external HR‑related vendors
Compliance & Risk
- Process employee terminations professionally and compliantly
- Manage workers’ compensation administration
- Support a distributed, multi‑state workforce (including tax and compliance considerations)
- Manage company’s FAA Drug and Alcohol program as the Designated Employee Representative
Communication & Culture
- Ensure timely, clear communication to employees and external partners
- Coordinate company events and employee appreciation initiatives
- Act as a culture steward while maintaining professional boundaries
- Employees feel supported, informed, and treated fairly
- Managers receive clear, confident HR guidance
- Payroll, benefits, performance reviews, and compliance run smoothly and on time
- Leadership receives accurate, actionable HR reporting
- HR processes are consistent, documented, and scalable
- Culture initiatives feel authentic—not performative
- 3–5+ years of HR experience, preferably in a standalone or high‑ownership role
- Experience with Paylocity or similar HRIS systems
- Strong understanding of payroll, benefits, performance management, and employment compliance
- Experience supporting employees across multiple U.S. states
- Highly resourceful and comfortable seeking external solutions when needed
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
