Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s Degree: in a field reasonably related to vocational rehabilitation such as:
- Vocational rehabilitation counseling
- Disability studies
- Business administration
- Human resources
- Special education
- Economics
- Other related fields
Years of
Experience:
1 year of full‑time experience for each year of qualification. A Bachelor’s degree plus not less than 2 years paid or unpaid experience in areas such as:
- Direct work with individuals with disabilities
- Advocacy or client services for people with disabilities
- Experience as employer or small‑business owner/operator
- Human resources, recruitment, supervision, or training
- Case management and high‑volume caseloads
- Team‑based work
Master’s or Doctoral Degree: in a field such as:
- Vocational rehabilitation counseling
- Law
- Disability studies
- Business administration
- Human resources
- Special education
- Management
- Public administration
- Other relevant fields
Preferred: Master’s degree plus not less than 1 year of full‑time experience.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide independent professional vocational rehabilitation counseling to individuals with a diversity of disabilities, facilitating their employment attainment through:
- Assessing medical, psychological, and vocational information to determine eligibility
- Developing and implementing Individual Plans for Employment in partnership with the client
- Authorizing, coordinating, and negotiating services and employment placement activities
- Consulting with employers, community rehabilitation providers, and other agencies
- Managing resources and ensuring financial accountability under state and federal regulations
- Providing technical assistance and specialized training to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintaining case records, producing correspondence, and other administrative functions
- Participating in continuous professional development and training activities
- Performing other related duties as required
Essential Functions: Reliable attendance and the ability to work under tight time frames, balance multiple priorities, and maintain a positive, customer‑service orientation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation theories and counseling practices
- Knowledge of interviewing techniques and medical/psychological aspects of disability groups
- Knowledge of effective communication principles and employment resources
- Knowledge of data organization, analysis, fiscal tracking, and state/federal fiscal requirements
- Ability to compile, organize, and analyze medical, vocational, and psychological data
- Ability to administer and interpret assessment tools
- Ability to provide career planning counseling and develop individualized programs
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships
