Department

This position is within FSU’s Department of Northwest Regional Data Center (NWRDC).

Responsibilities
  • Provide support for NWRDC‑Southwood data center facility and customer processing, maintaining a working knowledge of individual platforms, peripheral devices, and facility infrastructure.
  • Perform basic commands and monitor platforms and facility under limited supervision, following rules, guidelines, and directions prescribed by the supervisor.
  • Use decision‑making skills to identify problems and take appropriate action to ensure timely and error‑free service to the businesses supported by NWRDC.
  • Be available to work overtime and holidays as scheduled.
  • Establish or maintain a working knowledge of Data Center policies and procedures, including production control run schedules.
  • Monitor building security and computer room access.
  • Maintain knowledge of mainframe platforms, hardware configurations, facility infrastructure, and Enterprise Network Monitoring Tools.
  • Monitor all platforms for outstanding system messages, report issues, and escape as needed.
  • Monitor the status of customer‑owned equipment and its access.
  • Maintain Data Center logs and forms.
  • Use the ITSM Incident & Service Request processing tool: create incident and service tickets, report issues, and escape as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between applications, technical support, scheduling, and network staff to facilitate problem resolution during abnormal circumstances.
Facility Training
  • Attend/complete weekly load test (Switchgear) training at least once a quarter if proficient with the systems, or once a month for new employees.
  • Chiller (Chilled Water System) training once a quarter if proficient, or once a month for new employees.
  • React to a Switchgear emergency within 5 minutes and a chilled water system emergency within 10 minutes.
  • Communicate all issues clearly and concisely to facility staff to avert a shutdown.
Service Desk
  • Act as Service Desk representative after hours and on weekends: perform daily routines and related work as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Participate in approved professional development opportunities per NWRDC's policy.

Maintain services 24/7, including during crises or emergencies, as all NWRDC staff are considered essential for State of Florida operations.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency and three years' experience, or a combination of post‑high school education and experience equal to three years.

Helpful
  • Ideal candidate is a self‑starter, willing to work Saturday and Sunday 6:00 am–6:30 pm and Friday and Monday 6:00 am–2:30 pm, and willing to work holidays and emergencies (off‑shifts) when necessary. Must have at least 3 years' minimum data center/operations experience and be able to report to duty during natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, or other emergencies.
  • A typical day involves monitoring all aspects of the data center, performing occasional bending, walking, lifting, and climbing stairs while staying alert.
  • First 60‑90 days will include a 16‑week training program.
