POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Criminal Justice Information Compliance Supervisor (CJICS), this position serves as the subject matter expert to the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security policy and conducts technical audits of agencies or third-party vendors with direct or indirect access to CJIS systems to ensure compliance with CJIS security policy. This position conducts independent research relative to laws, rules and regulations that have an impact on criminal justice data.
Incumbent must meet and maintain National Crime Information Center/Florida Crime Information Center (NCIC/FCIC) certification as required and is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of data housed within the department databases.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Serving as liaison with internal and external customers regarding criminal justice information;
- Providing support and resolutions to both internal and external customers;
- Reviewing both state and national requirements for technical auditing and developing audit instruments to cover agencies that receive CJIS data;
- Creating a tentative audit itinerary for the fiscal year showing all audit trips necessary to obtain assigned goals;
- Processing criminal justice information access requests and researching required information to formulate a recommendation for the purposes of unescorted access to CJIS physically secured locations;
- Conducting lectures and/or presenting information to criminal justice agencies and others regarding data collection and services;
- Providing assistance with the operational needs of the Bureau as determined by the Bureau Chief or respective Manager;
- Researching in-state and out of state criminal history records to ensure accuracy and completeness; and
- Preparing written reports, charts, letters, memoranda, written presentations and other documentation in accordance with Department guidelines, using appropriate and logical formats, tone, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the CJIS Security Policy to effectively audit the operations of agencies that access criminal justice data;
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems;
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
- Ability to read and interpret law enforcement data;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data;
- Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
- Ability to work independently and within a team by planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments;
- Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous and effective manner; and
- Ability to train new members as requested by supervisor.
