Helpdesk Level 1

Summary: Installs, modifies, and makes repairs to desktops, laptops, printers, copiers, scanners, cell phones and desktop software systems, and provides technical assistance and training to system users by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect personal computer equipment and read order sheets listing user requirements to prepare computers for delivery.
  • Install hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on the user's premises.
  • Load specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, or spreadsheet programs into the computer.
  • Observe system functions to verify correct system operation.
  • Respond to client inquiries concerning systems operation and diagnosis of system hardware, software, and operator problems.
  • Instruct users on the use of equipment, software, and manuals.
  • Recommend or perform remedial actions to correct problems.
  • Coordinate activities with other IT areas, network services, or other information systems groups.
  • Provide updates, status, and completion information to manager, problem request tracking system, and/or users, via voicemail, e‑mail, or in‑person communication.
  • Replace defective or inadequate software packages.
  • Refer major hardware problems to service personnel for correction.
  • Research and generate Purchase Orders for technical purchases of the organization.
  • Escalate requests when needed.
Qualifications

Education/Experience

Minimum Associate degree of arts or science (A.A./A.S.) from two-year college or university; or two plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses

CompTIA A+ and/or equivalent certification is a must.

Language Ability

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

Math Ability

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software;
Spreadsheet software;
Accounting software;
Inventory software;
Internet software;
Order processing systems;
Project Management software;
Database software and Contact Management systems.
