position summary:

under the direct supervision of the manager i within the firearm purchase program (fpp), this position is responsible for the review and analysis of criminal history records to determine eligibility for the purchase and possession of firearms as authorized by florida statute. This position must meet and maintain national crime information center (ncic)/florida crime information center (fcic) certification as required and is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of data housed within department databases.

duties

& responsibilities:

specific duties include:

  • reviewing, evaluating, and processing requests by phone and in the firearm eligibility system (fes) queue from licensed firearm dealers to screen potential buyer’s eligibility to purchase a firearm;
  • assisting with the monitoring of operational activities to ensure compliance with agency policies/procedures, program requirements, state and federal laws, and operational goals;
  • making practical recommendations and provides appropriate documentation and support for ensuring that programs are in compliance;
  • contacting local, state, and federal agencies by means of telephone or written correspondence to obtain complete information necessary to determine a firearm buyer’s eligibility;
  • conducting post transaction research and routes cases to proper research unit as needed;
  • maintaining various logs and records of the requests received and processed; and
  • performing other related duties and functions.

  • knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication;
  • knowledge of the criminal justice system;
  • knowledge of the methods of data collection;
  • ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data;
  • ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
  • ability to operate computers and other office equipment;
  • ability to monitor criminal justice information activities;
  • ability to work independently by planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments;
  • ability to communicate effectively; and
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.

base salary:

$21.05/hour
