- Assist supervising actuary in preparing recommendations based on actuarial analysis of rate and rate-related filings
- Perform actuarial calculations for property and casualty rate filings to assess whether rates are excessive, inadequate, or unfairly discriminatory
- Review property and casualty insurance rate filings for compliance with state insurance laws
- Research, prepare, and submit data supporting actuarial analysis recommendations
- Prepare data summaries, extracts, and analyses for actuary-generated reports
- Summarize, reconcile, and analyze data used in financial examinations of companies
- Assist with correspondence and monitor responses
- Design, collect, analyze, and review statutorily required reporting forms
- Correspond with external sources to ensure compliance with legislation
- Apply statistical formulae and analytical procedures to rate filings
- Maintain manuals, databases, and logs related to assigned rate filings
- Recommend improvements to data reliability and availability
- Participate in the DFS Disaster Response Team and perform related travel when required
- Perform other related duties assigned by management
- Knowledge of insurance, probability, and statistics
- Knowledge of rate making principles
- Ability to use Excel and Microsoft Word or comparable word-processing applications
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to organize, document, and present data logically
- Ability to write reports
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Skill using personal computers, Windows, and Internet navigation
- Qualified applicants must take a work sample
- Ability to perform short-notice disaster-response duties and necessary attendant travel may be required
Demonstrates expertise in actuarial analysis, including rate filings and compliance with state insurance laws, while effectively communicating findings and recommendations. Proficient in statistical analysis and data management to support actuarial reporting and decision-making.
