Lotane & Associates (LA) is a debt collection and subrogation law firm located in Cocoa, FL. LA has been practicing in Brevard County for over 46 years and serves companies throughout the state of Florida. Our staff is dedicated solely to pursuing efficient recovery of bad debts for our clients.

Position Overview

As an Associate Attorney, you will play a critical role in representing our clients and ensuring the successful recovery of outstanding debts and subrogation losses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Appear for Hearings, Trials, and Mediations.
  • Represent clients in debt collection and subrogation matters, including negotiating settlements and pursuing legal remedies.
  • Conduct Depositions.
  • Gather evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support debt collection efforts.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including demand letters, complaints, and settlement agreements.
  • Handle all aspects of litigation, from case initiation to trial preparation.
  • Manage a caseload of debt collection and subrogation cases, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are regularly informed of case progress.
  • Collaborate with external parties, such as opposing counsel, judges, and court personnel, to resolve legal disputes.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in debt collection laws and regulations to ensure compliance and provide clients with accurate advice and guidance.
  • Provide legal guidance to office support staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Florida state bar and good standing.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in debt collection and subrogation.
  • Knowledge of Florida and Federal Law.
  • Strong knowledge of debtor and creditor rights, as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  • Proven experience handling debt collection and subrogation litigation from start to finish.
  • Exceptional negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a high volume of cases and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting legal documents.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with strong analytical skills.
Work Schedule

This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, at our firm in Cocoa, FL. Travel is required, but is mostly same-day in company-owned vehicle.

Compensation Overview

This is a salary, exempt position with bonus potential. Pay is on a bi-weekly cycle and is based on experience and skill set.
