The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Pay:$53,560 Annually
Position Summary:This position is with the Florida Elections Commission. This Staff Attorney position is responsible for the enforcement of Chapters 104 and 106 F.S., regarding corrupt election practices and campaign finance reporting.
This is a re-advertisement. Prior applicants need not re-apply Qualifications:- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and membership of the Florida Bar.
- Applicants who are not current members of the Florida Bar can be considered, providing they have applied to be members of the Florida Bar and received approval to sit for the bar exam. Any employment offer would be contingent upon passing the bar within 12 months from date of employment.
Preference may be given to applicants with administrative law experience. Knowledge of Florida's election laws are helpful, but not required.
The Work You Will Do:- Prepares probable cause recommendations by analyzing facts, researching legal precedent, consulting with investigative staff and drafting Staff Recommendations;
- Presents probable cause recommendations to the Commission;
- Negotiates settlements with Respondents and opposing counsel when appropriate;
- Prosecutes formally or informally before the Commission or formally before the Division of Administrative Hearings;
- Represents the Commission on appeals to higher courts;
- Works with investigative and administrative staff to gather, organize and prepare summaries of appeals of automatic fines and presents appeals to the Commission;
- Participates in recruitment and training of new attorneys;
- Conducts other projects as assigned by the Executive Director or General Counsel.
