Our Organization and Mission:
The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) is Florida’s chief health policy and planning entity.
The Agency is responsible for the oversight and administration of the Florida Medicaid program, the licensure and regulation of nearly 50,000 health care facilities and empowering consumers through health care transparency initiatives.
Under the direction of Agency Secretary Shevaun L. Harris, the Agency is focused on advancing Governor DeSantis’ vision for Florida’s health care system to be the most cost-effective, transparent, and high-quality health care system in the nation.
The General Counsel’s Office provides support to the Agency to assist with carrying out its mission.

Under the supervision of the General Counsel and Chief Legal Counsel, this position applies his or her legal expertise to handle litigation, to research federal and state Medicaid issues, to conduct legal discovery, and to prepare legal pleadings and briefs.
The attorney must be able to assimilate and analyze a variety of legislation and legal concepts relating to Medicaid.
Examples of Work Performed- Represent the Agency in litigation matters pertaining to the Agency in State and Federal Courts.
- The Incumbent is expected to represent the Agency in all bankruptcy related matters.
- During litigation, keep in close contact with all personnel affected by the suit.
- Office personnel should be informed at all major decision points and copied with all significant pleadings and memoranda filed and received.
- Prepare and review all necessary legal documents.
- The facts and law for each case should be thoroughly researched.
- The goal is to facilitate the Agency’s delivery of human and social services and protecting the public interest.
- Seek out and identify potential legal problems for the Agency.
- Present identified problems along with any proposed legal advice to the Agency General Counsel.
- This should be accomplished by participating in an agency consultant role to office personnel and groups, reviewing documents, rules, manuals, and proposed and existing legislation.
- Work with Agency personnel in developing legislation, reviewing proposed legislation from any source, implementing new legislation, and reviewing existing statutes for the purpose of proposing any needed remedial legislation.
