Summary

The Assistant General Counsel I will provide legal advice and counsel to Moffitt management and staff regarding bio‑medical focused research, intellectual property, grants, ethics, regulatory compliance, and related contracting. Responsibilities include drafting, negotiating, and finalizing contracts and agreements; conducting legal risk analyses; supporting management on licensing and commercialization; ensuring vendor contracts are properly executed; maintaining compliance with applicable laws; supervising in‑house staff and outside counsel;

and researching state and federal legislation.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, present, negotiate, and finalize contracts and agreements for various departments.
  • Provide legal advice on licensing intellectual property and commercialization of research activities.
  • Ensure vendors used by each department have appropriately reviewed and executed agreements on file.
  • Assist in protecting Moffitt's legal interests and maintaining compliance with applicable law.
  • Provide hands‑on legal counsel to all levels of management.
  • Identify and analyze legal issues; draft key documents; present recommendations; assure legal compliance.
  • Keep current on new and emerging laws and policy developments affecting Moffitt's operations.
  • Draft institutional policies in accordance with best practices and applicable laws.
  • Receive and investigate inquiries and issues related to legal matters such as licensures, credentialing, insurance, contracts, and Moffitt policies.
  • Research state and federal legislation, administrative and court decisions; investigate legal problems and make recommendations.
  • Support contract management efforts of the VP/Deputy General Counsel and EVP/General Counsel.
  • Prepare, review, and negotiate other business transactions.
  • Research and undertake special projects assigned by senior legal leadership.
  • Supervise and manage the legal work of in‑house paralegals, attorneys, and outside counsel.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor required and licensed to practice law.
  • Minimum of six years’ experience practicing law; at least eight years of compliance and/or transactional experience.
  • State Bar certification required;
    Florida Bar Board Certificate not mandatory.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating clinical trial agreements.
  • Experience leading complex transactions with healthcare and biotechnology partners, including startups and large corporations.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements related to human subject research.
  • Experience supervising and managing paralegals and support staff.
  • Life science or medical research experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is a plus.
Salary Range

Salary range posted for this position represents the expected base pay range. Compensation may vary based on location and other factors including experience, skills, education, and internal equity.
