Grounds Maintenance Worker

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES This position is responsible for maintaining and improving athletic fields, city grounds, and parks. Under the direction of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, the key duties include:

Field and Grounds Maintenance:
Perform regular maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, blowing, watering, weeding, aerating, and fertilizing athletic fields, parks, and city grounds.

Field Preparation:
Measure, layout, and line athletic fields and courts according to prescribed standards. Prepare fields for play, including inspecting for safety and maintenance needs.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, chain saws, tractors, and small power tools. Conduct preventive maintenance and perform general repairs.

Irrigation Maintenance:
Assist in repairing pipes, sprinkler heads, and other irrigation system components.

Custodial and General Repairs:
Perform minor building repairs, custodial duties, and maintenance tasks as needed within park areas and buildings.

Trash and Debris Collection:
Regularly collect trash, debris, and garbage from designated areas.

Safety and Inspections:
Complete safety inspections, maintain appropriate paperwork, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work effectively as part of a team, maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, patrons, and the general public.

Recreation Services:
Assist with Events, Rentals and Recreation Programs as needed.

Emergency Response:
Available to work during City declared emergencies.

Other Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Field Maintenance Knowledge:
Understanding of methods, materials, and practices used in the maintenance of parks, grounds, and athletic fields.

Equipment Proficiency:
Skilled in operating and maintaining various maintenance tools and equipment, including power tools and machinery.

Safety Awareness:
Knowledge of safety precautions and the ability to implement safety protocols during work activities.

Communication

Skills:

Ability to follow oral and written instructions, compose and send emails, and use basic computer skills for task documentation.

Physical Capability:
Ability to perform manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, and handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects.

Flexibility:
Willingness to work flexible hours, including late nights, weekends, and occasional overtime.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education:

High school diploma or GED.

Experience:

Demonstrated ability to perform job duties through related experience or specialized coursework.

Licenses:
Valid Florida Driver’s License.

Technical

Skills:

Proficient in using small hand and power tools, and basic computer operations.

Work Conditions:
Ability to work under varied weather conditions and respond to civil defense recall if required.
