Department: Deposit Accounting | The Controller's Office

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Deposit Accounting team and oversee performance, evaluation, training, and development of staff.
  • Oversee staff functions including deposit matching and posting; develop and maintain systems and procedures to identify and record deposits; provide departmental training and support; reconcile databases and systems to ensure timely, accurate deposit processing.
  • Direct staff activities related to the university’s eCommerce payment systems and merchant services, including processing of credit card refunds, voids, and chargebacks.
  • Manage the administration of university merchant fees and related activities and confirm the accuracy and payment of monthly charges.
  • Serve as the primary liaison on the reconciliation of deposit transactions; ensure timely, thorough reconciliation of all deposit-related activity to the university’s bank statement; attend monthly bank reconciliation meetings and resolve outstanding deposits in a timely manner.
  • Maintain sound fiscal controls; review daily and monthly reconciliations for accuracy and timely completion; monitor trends and indicators of deposit processing and merchant services; identify problem areas and suggest improvements.
  • Ensure adequate internal business process documentation, backup, and cross training in critical and ancillary business functions; ensure trainings are offered and reference guides are up to date; participate in disaster recovery or planning activities.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and experience: Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or similar field and three years of experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or similar field and five years of experience; OR a high school diploma/equivalent and nine years of related experience. (

Note:

a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing, supervising, training, and/or directing work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Experience with accounting systems and practices.
  • Ability to document existing and new processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proven ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Knowledge of the OMNI (People Soft) accounting system and experience researching, producing, analyzing, and communicating complex financial data.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations; ability to apply related university policies, procedures, principles, and practices.

Anticipated

Salary Range

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $64,000, commensurate with experience and education.
