Operations Manager, Program / Project Manager

The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
Responsibilities- Supports the Spaceflight Processing (SFP) Directorate by providing guidance for the Department's managerial function. Provides management and technical leadership for SLS/Orion Handling, Mechanical & Structures Engineering group.
- Manages the overall Department area of responsibility; develops and implements plans; determines personnel requirements and assignments; develops personnel shift schedules to cover work requirements; evaluates individual and group results, provides employee counseling, and complies with EEO/AA programs. Makes personnel-related recommendations.
- Identifies and prepares annual resource estimates and complies with budget limitations. Interprets, adapts, and recommends policies and procedures; develops, coordinates, and implements policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.
- Implements quality, safety, and housekeeping standards.
- Manages resources effectively within budgetary and time constraints and contributes to the overall success of the company by providing a motivated and productive staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in related management area; at least 7 years related experience including at least three years of successfully managing people.

- Requires demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by prior managerial / supervisory and/or technical leadership experience.
- Previous experience with Handling, Mechanical and/or Structures Engineering is desired, but not required.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and customer interface skills required.
- Ability to manage resources effectively within budgetary and time constraints.
- Working knowledge of engineering tools such as, but not limited to, Solumina and Maximo is required.
- Working knowledge of GFAST and the SLS/Orion ground and flight systems is highly desirable.
- Computer experience with Microsoft Office products, Internet browsers, and Outlook.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.
- Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting.
- Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.
- Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
- Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
- Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
- Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
- Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
- Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers.
- Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.
- Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.
- Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule
- If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.
- Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.
- Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
- Government security clearance may be required in the future.
