Position Overview
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Library Specialist, Supervisor. Additional vacancies may be filled from this recruitment for a different location within the library system. This position may be assigned to any location within the Libraries Division based on operational needs.

Requires an Associate's degree or two (2) years of higher level education from an accredited college or university.
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
Requires four (4) years of library operations and processes experience or experience relevant to area of assignment; including two (2) years of lead work/supervisory experience.

Preferences- Bachelor's Degree or higher or closely related field
- At least four (4) years of experience with an integrated Library System
- At least three (3) years of Cash Handling experience
- One (1) year or more experience in operating Audio/Visual Equipment
- One (1) year or more experience planning and implementing programs and preparing publications/promotional materials that support public programs
- At least six (6) months of Project Planning experience
- Six (6) months or more experience in Grant Writing
Supervises library employees and manages the activities at a particular branch or cluster. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Oversees lending library materials to customers through coordination of shelving, holds, returns and maintenance of customer circulation reports for branch and cluster, and customer records; supervises cash handling procedures and related reports, and ensures staff complies with Libraries Division's cash handling procedures.
Works at the public service desks providing service to library customers with basic information, location of library materials and assistance in the use of computer and other library equipment; assists with returning and lending materials, issues new library cards, gives library services orientation and handles Point of Sale transactions; provides service to customers with account problems and provides resolutions.
Ensures County policies and Library procedures are adhered to and administered fairly, and explains policies and procedures to staff and customers as needed.
Selects, trains, supervises, counsels, and evaluates staff and maintains performance logs. Completes staff performance appraisals, addresses performance concerns and sets goals to enable employees to meet expectations.
In collaboration with manager and other section supervisors, serves as a member of the management team of the library.
Develops processes and procedures through participating in system-wide committees; tests new technologies and services and makes recommendations before system-wide implementation; assists in the development of training manuals.
Serves as system-wide resource person for Circulation and Programming Services; explains updated policies and procedures and trains staff for implementation.
Contributes to a safe environment by addressing customer code of conduct violations and escalating matters to the Supervisor in Charge (SIC) and/or contacting appropriate authorities as needed. This position regularly serves as SIC.
